Does getting paid for not doing nothing count as a career? It’s a great dream!
Most people I know dream of being doctors, teachers, engineers or lawyers… although this is a bit boring and old fashioned. There are so many other great jobs out there!
Why do you think people want these jobs so much?
Heppler- Sorry for that grammar glitch… going with the double-negative, I actually meant “not doing anything”. Not doing nothing is what everybody does all the time.
I wouldn’t want to be a CEO of a large company myself (too much responsibility and risk), but I can see why people would see it as attractive- money, power, decision-making, impacting the world, etc.
I’ve always dreamt of owning/running an urban art gallery with some decks in the back for live DJ’s to spin. I have some interesting ideas on helping to launch the careers of new artits. If I ever stop loving the job I have I might just start working on that dream.
@oLahav – I think a lot of people grow up hoping to doctors, lawyers, or teachers because these are the most common professions we hear of. These can all be considered very honourable careers – a doctor helps heal people, a teacher molds the minds of a next generation, and a lawyer is a living representation of justice (or at least, they should). These ideals are what we grow up with, but of course, nothing is ever that black and white.
I’m sure there are lots of great jobs out there, many of which we’ve never even heard of. My dream career has ranged from being a musician to a travel TV host to a fashion designer. I would love to do something where I can feel like I directly help people and their lives in a personal manner. This would be probably have to do with something in journalism or communications. But when it comes down to it, I think teaching can be a very noble profession. I would love to be a high school teacher. It’s not just about teaching material. It’s almost like being a third parent, a mentor, a friend, a muse and a psychologist all rolled into one. At least that’s what I think a good teacher should be, at least.

Sure, we all want to get paid “for not doing nothing”. But poor grammar aside, the only a tiny minority of people ever get by doing very little.
I think my dream job would be the CEO of a large, well respected company. Where my decisions were respected and they guided the company to success.
On the other hand, I guess getting paid to post on a glorified blog would be pretty decent too.
